I have realized one important fact this last week- God is good. You may be thinking that this is nothing new, but the fact never really gets old. The one verse that usually pops into everyone’s mind when they hear of the goodness of God is found in Psalms:
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Psalm 34:8 (NKJV)
What? You may have heard this verse a thousand times before, but what does it really mean? How are we to TASTE that the Lord is good? As I was pondering about what this may mean, I realized that taste is typically a sense associated with the tongue. When we taste a food item, we experience what it is like. We may find that it is sweet, sour, or bitter. We may or may not like the texture of it, but we know if it is “good” to eat.
The following link is a really good description of what Psalm 34:8 is saying.
To taste and see God’s goodness means to experience it. David writes as if he has known just how good God is. If we do not “taste and see”, we will not find the awe factor in God. I’ve had an amazing week tasting and seeing God’s goodness revealed in my life. It is indeed everywhere, we just need to find it, taste it, and see it. I find it in creation, as well as all throughout the scriptures. God is alive. He is all powerful. He is good, and in that He is to be trusted. A good God will NEVER let you down.
His faithfulness isn’t determined by ours.
